Homeownership Westminster Show - Thursday 8th October

One day event to help first time buyers in central London

First time buyers who live or work in Westminster are being invited to attend a one-day event next month to find out about housing opportunities available across the city.

People keen to get on the property ladder will be able to find out about what options are available to help them such as shared-ownership and discounted rented schemes.

On Thursday October 8th at the Abbey Centre in Great Smith Street, Victoria, from 12 to 8pm, they will also be able to take advantage of free legal advice from solicitors specialising in affordable housing and free assessments from an independent financial advisor.

The event, which is supported by Rightmove, is part is part of Homeownership Westminster - a Westminster City Council initiative to help those who are priced out of the private housing market.

Cllr Philippa Roe, Westminster Council's cabinet member for housing, said: "This is an excellent opportunity for first time buyers to obtain information and advice on identifying a suitable home in the heart of London that not only meets their affordability, but also their aspirations."

To be eligible for the service, people must be first time buyers or not have owned a home for the past two years, live or work in Westminster and have a maximum household income of £60,000.

This service provides:

  • Assistance with registering interest for home ownership opportunities.
  • Information about specific home ownership opportunities available for first time buyers.
  • Specialist advice such as debt counselling, financial or employment advice to help improve their home ownership prospects.

Under this initiative, priority will be given to council and housing association tenants living in Westminster, people on the waiting list for rented social housing, Westminster residents, and those who work in Westminster respectively.
